VERMONT REPUBLICAN DRAFT PLATFORM - 2024
PREAMBLE
We, Vermont Republicans, believe in the principles laid out in our nation’s Declaration of Independence that all people are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights and that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness – That to secure these rights governments are instituted and derive their just powers from the consent of the governed.
PERSONAL LIBERTY AND RESPONSIBILITY
Vermont Republicans believe in the rights, responsibilities, and consequences of citizenry as outlined in our Federal and State Constitutions, and enacted laws.
RESPONSIBLE AND RESPONSIVE GOVERNMENT
Vermont Republicans believe the government must adhere to the Constitution. In all cases, the government must be administered honestly, competently, and without political bias.
EDUCATION
Vermont Republicans believe that citizens thrive when they have ready access to high-quality education. Government should respect the role of students, parents, and legal guardians, who have a critical and vested interest in the educational process. We believe helping Vermonters maintain local control of schools is in the best interest of both students and parents.
HEALTHCARE
Vermont Republicans believe in quality healthcare that is affordable and accessible for all Vermonters. We cherish our proud history of providing safe and healthy communities while protecting the privacy of the patient / healthcare provider relationship.
AFFORDABILITY
Vermont Republicans believe government should only do what citizenry cannot do for themselves. Government bears a fiduciary responsibility in the prudent and necessary use of tax dollars.
SAFETY
Vermont Republicans believe adherence to laws are necessary for a civil society to survive. Laws must protect the innocent, support law enforcement, and be administered justly with compassion and fairness.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Vermont Republicans believe a reliable state-wide infrastructure is essential for economic growth and opportunity. It should provide efficient and economical transportation, effective environmental stewardship, and a competitive business environment.
ENVIRONMENT
Vermont Republicans believe prioritizing and solving local environmental issues rather than trying to change the world’s climate is better use of taxpayer dollars, benefits every Vermonter, and is realistically an achievable goal.
CONCLUSION
Vermont Republicans believe in one nation under God, individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, compassion for the vulnerable, low taxes, a free-market economy, and local control. The principles set forth in this platform reflect the beliefs and values that characterize the Vermont Republican Party. While individual Republicans may hold diverse opinions in some areas, such differences should not deflect from advancing the principles that unite us as a party.
Rules for Proposed Amendments:
1) Proposed Amendments must be submitted using the form below no later than 9:30am on Monday May 13th
2) Proposed amendments must have a sponsor and at least one co-sponsor
3) All sponsors and co-sponsors must also be voting delegates of the Platform Convention
4) Proposed amendments must be drafted and submitted as attachments preferably in WORD, PDF or another commonly accepted document form that can meet the criteria below
5) Within the text of each amendment, sponsors should
a) Clearly Identify the exact place in the sentence of the draft platform where the change should occur
b) Use underline to denote language to be added
c) Use strikethrough to denote language to be removed
6) The Platform Committee shall vote on each proposed amendment in order to recommend to the convention whether to adopt, reject or further amend the proposed amendment.
