Montpelier, VT – It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Vermont’s 72nd Governor, Ray Keyser.
Republican F. Ray Keyser Jr. was a native Vermonter, born in Chelsea. He was an attorney who served three terms in the House of Representatives, including one term as Speaker of the House. In 1961 he became the youngest person ever elected Governor of Vermont at age 34.
After serving his state in the legislature and as Governor, Gov. Keyser became general counsel and later CEO and Chairman of the Board of Vermont Marble Company in Proctor. Among several other leadership roles, Gov. Keyser also served as Director and Chairman of the Board of Central Vermont Public Service Corporation from 1980-1997.
The Vermont Republican Party expresses our sincere condolences to Gov. Keyser’s family. We also offer our deepest thanks and appreciation for his dedicated leadership of our party and our state.
