Leahy Got At Least $34K In Free Junkets Courtesy of Special Interests

Pomfret, VT (May 12, 2016) – Small businessman Scott Milne made the following statement today regarding Sen. Patrick Leahy’s false claim that no business has paid for any of his travel during his more than 40 years in Washington:

“It seems after 40 years inside the beltway, it’s tough to keep track of the gifts. Senator Leahy has accepted thousands of dollars in free travel sponsored by corporations and other organizations with interests in front of the Senate,” said Milne. “This is just one example of why Vermonters and all Americans are fed up with Washington politicians who long ago forgot where they came from and who sent them there.”

Leahy Says Companies Have Never Bankrolled His Travel. “I [have not], nor have I ever had any business in my 40 years here pay for any of my travel.” (Seven Days, 5/11/16)

But Leahy Has Received At Least $34,433 Of Free Travel From Corporations And Other Organizations With Business Before The Senate. “According to filings dating back to 2000 and made available by the nonpartisan congressional tracking firm LegiStorm, Leahy has accepted at least $34,433 worth of free travel. Some of his trips were financed by those with business before the Senate.” (Seven Days, 5/11/16)
