I’m sure you will agree, this is a very important year for our state. With so much at stake for the struggling working families and most economically vulnerable in our state, I know we both want Vermonters to have a clear understanding of what our respective parties see as the major economic challenges facing our state and what our parties’ candidates offer as solutions.
To assure that our economic visions and positions are clear to Vermonters, I invite you to a neutrally moderated debate – Party Chair to Party Chair – to compare our views of Vermont’s economy and our parties’ plans for making our economy more vibrant, our state stronger and Vermonters more prosperous.
Specifically, I propose that we petition the Vermont Press Association (VPA) to moderate the event and that we both have full approval of the panelists selected by the VPA. I further propose that the event be open to the public and, of course, all media.
Finally, I’m hopeful you will agree the event would be an excellent opportunity to contribute to the Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Vermont Foodbank by encouraging attendees to make a modest contribution.
I believe in transparency and I know you do as well. This polite exchange of views would surely be warmly received, help move past the sloganeering and soundbite politics that all too often passes as political discourse and serve Vermonters well.
Please feel free to contact me directly at email@example.com with your response. I look forward to meeting you and engaging in a productive debate on the issues most important to Vermonters.
