Hypocrisy Alert: Doug Racine

On April 22nd, at the Bennington County gubernatorial debate, Doug Racine stood up and said “Economic and job growth will come from investing in and focusing on the state’s main sectors – manufacturing, agriculture and tourism.” (Bennington Banner, 4/22/10)

Republicans couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately for Vermonters, Racine’s actions speak louder than his words.

The very next day, Racine joined with joined with 16 other Senators – including fellow gubernatorial candidates Peter Shumlin and Susan Bartlett – in voting to raise taxes on manufacturers, farmers, contractors and other job creating sectors of our economy.

This is the same Doug Racine who originally voted against (before he voted for) the Legislature’s budget last year because it didn’t raise taxes enough!

It seems Senator Racine’s idea of “investing in and focusing on the state’s main sectors” means raising taxes on those very sectors.
