FACT CHECK #4 ABOUT THE SHUMLIN-SHAP SMITH ECONOMY

More Vermonters Are Unemployed Today Than One Year Ago

Montpelier, Vt. –  While Governor Shumlin boasts of job creation over the past year, the real facts show that more Vermonters are hurting in the still stagnant Shumlin-Shap Smith Economy.

In December 2013, there were 14,850 Vermonters listed as unemployed.  Governor Shumlin, House Speaker Shap Smith and the Democrat supermajority in the legislature ended the year with 14,950 unemployed Vermonters.

Their policies have fundamentally failed to reduce the number of unemployed Vermonters.

Young people, seniors, working class Vermonters and small business owners deserve better economic leadership. They deserve leadership that faces the facts honestly, head-on and addresses our state’s challenges with a coherent plan that is transformative. Not just more of the same.

It’s time for a change.
